The Reuben’s Story: Where Heritage Meets Innovation

The Beginning: 1971 – A Visionary’s Foundation
In 1971, while much of Kenya’s dairy industry chased volume and commercial production, two families in the highlands made a different choice. They chose quality over quantity. They chose meticulous care over shortcuts. They chose to build something that would last generations.
The Makongi Legacy
One of these families was led by Hon. Reuben Chesire (1941-2008), who acquired Makongi Farm in Uasin Gishu County when he was barely 30 years old. Reuben wasn’t just building a farm, he was building a legacy that would shape Kenya’s agricultural sector for decades to come.
Hon. Chesire understood something fundamental: agriculture wasn’t just about production, it was about people, communities, and long-term stewardship. His vision extended far beyond the farm gates.
Reuben Chesire believed in farming with purpose. His approach to agriculture combined commercial excellence with deep community responsibility values that continue to guide Makongi Farm and now Reuben’s brand today.
The Kabarak Vision
The Moi family established their farm in Kabarak, Nakuru County, where rich volcanic soil and ideal highland climate created perfect conditions for exceptional dairy farming. Like the Chesires at Makongi, they chose to invest in Guernsey cattle, a breed known for producing golden, nutrient-rich milk, but requiring more specialized care than commercial breeds.
Both families shared the same commitment: build for generations, never compromise on quality, and now work together to contribute positively to Kenya’s agricultural future.
Why We Bear His Name
When the two family farms united in 2024 to launch a specialty food brand, choosing the name “Reuben’s” was about honoring more than a person,it was also about honoring a philosophy.
Reuben Chesire believed that:
- Agriculture should elevate communities, not just make profits
- Quality matters more than quantity
- Farming knowledge should be shared, not hoarded
- Success is measured by the legacy you leave, not just what you achieve
Today, every bottle of Reuben’s milk and every cut of Reuben’s Wagyu beef carries forward this philosophy. We’re not just producing food, we’re building community, sharing knowledge, and contributing to Kenya’s agricultural excellence, just as Hon. Chesire did throughout his life.
From community leadership to agricultural innovation. From a visionary farmer to a specialty food brand that serves Kenya’s families. This is the legacy we honor. This is Reuben’s.
The Birth of Reuben’s: 2024
In 2024, the two family farms officially united under one brand: Reuben’s.
